MacBook or iPad?
If you write a lot and juggle several windows, get a MacBook Air — the keyboard and macOS are simply better at it. If you mostly read and annotate, an iPad with Apple Pencil is lighter and cheaper. For lectures an iPad is enough; for a thesis you want a MacBook.
